Clean your oriental rug from diffirrent spots

    Water

     It may not seem bad to you when water spills in your oriental rug, but it's important to drain of any liquid of your rug even if it's just water, wet rugs can smell very bad and it's a suitable environment for moths, since oriental rugs are made and dyed essentially by natural materials, this can be a serious problem.

Treatment:  

place paper or cloth towels on and under the oriental rug to absorb as mush as possible, if the wet area is beg you  may better put it in a sunny place , if it's small, a fan will be enough.

   Urine

   Urine can be a big problem if not cleaned immediately because it may change the color and stiffen the threads of oriental rugs , oriental rugs are made of sensitive threads and its colors are more variable than other rugs. 

Treatment:

   With paper towels or a clean cloth towel, blot up as much liquid as possible, then use a solution of white vinegar and water ( 1part vinegar ,1 part water) dip a soft rug brush on the solution and gently clean the area, blot up the vinegar solution and repeat the process, the vinegar neutralizes the odor or urine and helps to make the colors more vibrant.

    Vomit

     (A problem that I have been faced with while righting these very lines)
     Vomit is a mixture of solid parts, saliva and stomach acids so it needs special treatment.

 Treatment :

     First of all remove all the food remains from your oriental rug with a cloth, use a table spoon to remove any bits among the fibers.
    In a spray bottle make a solution of one part water, one part vinegar and one part rug shampoo, spray on the unclean area and gently scrub with a soft rug brush , dry the rug with paper towel and repeat the process, dry again , place your oriental rug in a sunny place if possible.

   Dirt

    Dirt from shoes is the most common spot on rugs , as I mentioned in another post , you'd better not to allow heavy shoes inside your house to keep your oriental rugs clean, ( actually in rug making countries, it's very unpolite to enter a house with your shoes on).

Treatment:

   Vacuum the rug first to remove as much dirt as possible, then clean your oriental rug using a solution of rug shampoo and a soft brush,( don't add water if your rug shampoo is hydrated )

the spot will vanish easily but too many dirt spots will make it harder when you wash your rug.

  Candle dripping\ wax

     Wax and candle drops don't dissolve in water or water based detergents , They need a solvent like gasoline ( it's very flammable so be careful) if you aren't comfortable with the smell of gasoline ,  buy other solvent from the store.

   Don't try to pull the solidified candle or wax from your oriental rug because this will damage the rug.

   Treatment:

   put some of the solvent on a clean cloth and scrub the wax\candle until your oriental rug is completely clean. place the oriental rug in a balcony or a place with air circulation until the gasoline or the solvent is volatilized.

   If you can't find a solvent or gasoline, you can use any kind of cooking oil to clean the candle spot but in this case you will clean yous oriental rug thoroughly with rug shampoo to clean the residual oil.

      Oriental rugs are very sophisticated piece of decor to any room they are placed in , they aren't cheap as well so you may prefer to keep your oriental rug as clean as possible to avoid doing the hard process of oriental rug cleaning so often.

Use heavy shoes only outdoors

     Heavy shoes and high heals cause a lot of damage to the delicate fabrics of oriental rugs not to mention the soil and other dirt that may stain your expensive oriental rug , try to wear only socks or walk barefoot inside your house , this will save you much cleaning time of you rug and your floor as well. if walking barefoot is not applicable for your life style, then try to place your oriental carpet in a place away from the entree of your house.

Vacuum your oriental rug daily

    Vacuuming your oriental rug  every day would help to prevent  the dust from accumulating in your rug , dust and humidity cause rugs to discolor and look unclean.

Never let a stain to set

    Cleaning  your oriental rug from stains as soon as they happen helps to prevent discoloring and bad odor , place paper or cloth  towels on the dirty spot immediately  to blot up as much liquid as possible , the problem will be much easily if the spill is not allowed to dry .

     After blotting up the liquid, use a mixture of light detergent or carpet shampoo and white vinegar on the spill spot with a sponge . the vinegar  will help with the odor and prevent proliferation of bacteria, blot up the washing mix again and your precious oriental carpet will be clean.

What to do for bad odor

    If your rug became smelly , you can use a mixture of baking soda and any aromatic oil you  prefer, powder your oriental rug with the baking soda , leave it for 30 minutes then vacuum it, baking soda is very efficient with absorbing smells.

Tip: use it for your fridge as well, you would love the result.
